Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric: Affordable and retro design

Renault has not only presented the new subsidiary Ampere, but also a new project: the electric Twingo in retro design. The reference to the design of the past is not new, already with the new editions of the Renault R4 and R5 they rely on retro looks.

You can immediately see that this is the Twingo, the children's eyes have been retained, and the shape of the hickey ball with many curves and hardly any angular elements has only been slightly changed in the concept.

Overall, the electric Twingo appears modern and old at the same time. The design of the lights reflects exactly this contrast – familiar design language with futuristic elements. Renault has not yet announced any technical data, but they want to achieve a consumption of only 10 kWh/100 km and offer the E-Twingo for less than 20,000 euros.

Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric: Interior

At the 2025 Motor Show in Brussels, Renault has now given a first look at the interior of the upcoming E-Twingo. This not only shows references to the ancestors of the Twingo through a spacious and functional layout, but also the renewal to bring the new Twingo into the modern age. For example, there is a central 10.1-inch screen for the infotainment, while the digital instruments are displayed on a 7-inch instrument cluster.

In addition to playful extras and the modern-futuristic design, the developers have also paid attention to the feeling of space and installed a lot of windows, including the large glass roof, to create an open and airy space despite the small size.

The AmpR Small platform serves as the technical basis for the Twingo and the plant in Slovenia was named as the production site.

What is Renault Ampere?

Ampere is Renault's latest subsidiary, officially unveiled on November 1, 2023. Ampere will develop the group's electric cars in the future, but the Ampere brand name will not be used for the models. These will continue to come from Renault, Nissan or Mitsubishi – all of the manufacturers mentioned are taking a stake in Ampere.

The aim is to reduce the cost of electric cars and thus also the list prices by 40 percent. The aim is to bring all electric models in line with those of the combustion engine versions in terms of price by 2028. Ampere focuses on the design and development of electric-specific components and produces the group's new electric cars. The Renault Group will concentrate on the classic powertrains and provide support tasks in sales, quality standards and the supply chain.

With these synergies, Ampere should become successful.
